Supraseal® is a cold-applied, self-adhesive butyl tape that rapidly seals leaks in roofing membranes, gutters and flashings. Roofers and maintenance teams use it as a long-term roof leak repair, a permanent seal between dissimilar single-ply membranes, a gutter sealant and a lead flashing alternative. It's completely bitumen free and creates a waterproof seal in minutes.
Which width do I need?
Overlap the defect by at least 50mm on every side, so add about 100mm to the size of the defect and pick the next width up.
- 50mm: nail and screw holes, pinholes, fine cracks, pipe and cable entries, quick van or caravan repairs. Also available as a pack of 3 with free delivery.
- 100mm: gutter joints, short seam or lap fixes, narrow modular and site cabin joints, splits up to about 50mm.
- 200mm: single-ply laps and seams (EPDM, TPO, PVC), upstands and abutments, corners, outlets and penetrations, splits of 50–100mm.
- 300mm: deep upstands and parapets, wide bay and module joints, large flat roof patches, valleys and wide flashings, splits over 100mm.

Why Supraseal
- Seals in minutes: cold applied, with no torch or liquid. The bond strengthens over time.
- Bitumen free: butyl based and non-staining on plastisol-coated steel.
- Built to last: UV stable, waterproof and airtight, from -30°C to +80°C.
- Moves with the roof: stays flexible as the roof heats and cools, and doesn't harden in sunlight.
- Forgiving: it can be repositioned in the first few minutes, and painted over to blend in.
- 10-year warranty.
Where to use it
Lean-to roofs, conservatories, carports and canopies where polycarbonate sheets meet a wall; chimneys and roof lights; cladding and facade joints; gutters and flashings; caravans and motorhomes; and air-conditioning pipework where it passes through a wall.
Fitting tips
- Make sure the surface is clean, dry and free of dust and grease.
- On polycarbonate, don't clean with solvents: use soapy water and let it dry.
- Overlap joins by at least 50mm.
- Press it down firmly with a seam roller, working out any air.
Sticks to
EPDM, TPO and aged PVC single-ply membranes, SBS bitumen, asphalt, concrete, masonry, fibre cement, clay tiles, slate, lead, aluminium, copper, glass, timber, fibreglass, polyethylene, polypropylene and polystyrene.
Butyl tape FAQs
Is butyl tape better than bitumen flashing tape?
For a lasting repair, yes. Bitumen tapes can soften in summer heat, crack in the cold and stain coated metal. Butyl stays flexible from -30°C to +80°C, doesn't harden in sunlight and won't stain plastisol-coated steel.
Can I use it instead of lead flashing?
Yes. Supraseal is widely used as a lead flashing alternative at walls, chimneys and roof lights. It's lighter, has no scrap value to thieves and needs no hot works. See flashing tape vs lead flashing.
Does it need a primer?
Not on most clean, dry, firm surfaces. Brush off dust, moss and loose granules first, and roll the tape down firmly.
Can I apply it in cold or wet weather?
The surface must be dry and free of dust and grease. On cold days, keep the roll somewhere warm before you start, as the tape is easier to work when it isn't cold.
Can it be painted?
Yes, it can be painted over to blend in with the roof or wall.
How long does it last?
It's UV stable and backed by a 10-year Supraseal® warranty. Step-by-step guides: felt roof repair, leaking gutter joints, EPDM roof repair.
